Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello! My name is Molly Hinkes and I am very excited to be your child’s K5 teacher for the 2017-2018 school year! I am so excited to meet and get to know your children and have lots of fun while we learn and grow together. This year will be a wonderful journey.

K5 is a time in your children’s lives that they begin to explore new aspects of education. They will use inquiry, research, and other skills to learn new skills and gain a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. In K5 we will also begin taking steps towards becoming readers such as learning all letters and sounds, and how to read and write. Our goal is that students will be able to read a number of simple words and sight words as well as beginner readers. They will also learn to write complete sentences to express thoughts and tell short stories by the end of the year. Your children will learn more about numbers and counting, such as numbers to 100 and higher and skip counting. We will learn more about addition and how to understand numbers and their relationship to objects. Your children can expect whole-group as well as small group instruction every day. K5 is a crucial year for your child and they will encounter several new experiences. One of our main goals is to help your child become more independent and begin to recognize the best version of their individual selves.

I am so excited to help your children create and meet all of the goals set before them in K5 and much more. I want to help your children feel safe in the school environment and find a way to showcase their individual talents and guide their success. I invite you to be as involved as you can to help me learn more about you and your children in order to ensure their success. We will work together throughout the year to achieve as much growth as possible.

I would love to share a few things about myself. I have lived in the Milwaukee area for the past 8 years. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. This will be my second-year teaching and my second-year teaching at DLHA. My favorite hobbies include spending time with my family, reading, outdoor activities, and being creative with art and food.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work at Darrell Lynn Hines Academy with your children this school year. I am excited to learn and grow with my students and families. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and cannot wait to begin this journey!

Thank you,

Molly Hinkes
